Someone with spondylolisthesis has one vertebra slipped out of place onto the vertebra below. The two more common types are congenital and degenerative. Most people who have the condition are asymptomatic, never suspecting a problem. But occasionally a slipped vertebra pinches a nerve root exiting the spinal canal, causing pain in the lower back or leg. Physical therapy can bring relief or facilitate recovery if surgery is necessary.
