Equipment We Use
Using good quality equipment can help you along your road to recovery. Below is a list of equipment we recommend to our patients.
Scoliosis Equipment
Stall Bars
The main piece of exercise equipment for Schroth Method exercises. These are well built and allow you to perform the same exercises as in the clinic.
Doorway Pull-up Bar
These pull up bars can be used for a variety of scoliosis exercises. If you are not able to do a full stall bar set, this is great option.
Bean Bags
We use bean or rice bags to help with corrections in the Schroth Method. These are usually a few different sizes, but these can be stacked to make larger or smaller.
Stool
In the Schroth Method, there are a few exercises that use a small stool to keep the leg up. This stool is a good height for most people and is sturdy.
Yoga Mat
Many Schroth Method exercises are done lying on the floor. If your floor is not soft, it is nice to have a good yoga mat to cushion the floor.
Half Foam Roll
Depending on your curve pattern, exercises in the Schroth Method utilize a half foam roll for support. This is a good quality roll that is not too long.
Spri Band
Quite a few exercises in the Schroth Method involve hanging. Looping this Spri Band around the bar can help to lessen the pressure on your hands.
Upright Go 2
Posture is a very important part of scoliosis treatment. Retraining a forward posture can be especially helpful. This device is designed for that.
Oak Dowel
Using a dowel along with the stretch strap and door anchor allows you to perform hanging exercises with minimal affect to existing door frames or structures.
Door Anchor
Door anchors for use with the stretch strap and dowel help to hold secure when doing Schroth specific exercises. They can also be used to anchor the strap when sidelying.
Stretch Strap
This stretch strap can be used for the hanging exercises with Schroth but can also be used for anchoring the pelvis with the gait belt. It is also great for stretching.
General Physical Therapy Equipment
Resistance Loops
We use loop bands for a variety of things. Hip strengthening, shoulder stability, and many other things can be treated with these.
Exercise Ball
Sometimes called a yoga ball or physio ball, these are great! The ball creates some instability to increase muscle activity and strength.
Foam Roll
One of our favorite ways to stretch and open up posture. These can also be used to roll out knots in the muscles. Essential for most conditions.
Resistance Bands
We use these a lot in therapy. If you don't have free weights, or even if you do, these make a great addition to a home gym setup.
Ice Packs
These are great quality ice packs that will last. They stay flexible, even when they are fresh out of the freezer. Variety of sizes.
Heating Pads
This is a great quality heating pad that will give you relief. You can use this on sore muscles, tightness, and many other things.
KT Tape
Kinesiology tape is used to support structures on the body and provide relief to injury. We use it a lot in the clinic and you can too.
Balance Pad
Standing on a soft surface can help to improve balance. This is the same pad we use in the clinic to treat balance issues.
Blood Pressure Cuff
We use blood pressure cuffs to provide feedback for core exercise. Using this, we can identify and train weakness to improve back pain.
TRX
TRX straps are a great way to get exercise at home. We use them in the clinic to use body weight to minimize the need for weights.
Leukotape
This kind of tape is used to support the knee or back. The benefit is that is has no elasticity and maintains support.
Cover Roll
This tape is used with Leukotape to protect the skin and help it to adhere as well. It is very sticky and can be used by itself as well.
Shoulder Pulley
Pulleys can be really helpful after shoulder surgery as well as with certain shoulder conditions. These go over a door.
Hand Putty
Putty is a great way to build and strength. Grip strength is essential in life and this can help with many other motions as well.
Flex Bar
Tennis elbow and other forearm conditions can really be helped by strengthening. This bar helps to get eccentric strengthening.
Balance Disc
Challenging balance helps it to improve. This disc is a great way to start improving your balance by challenging stability.
