Facet Dysfunction

Treating the Joints in the Spine

Facet joints connect vertebrae and allow the spine to move. Through aging, trauma, or strain, these little joints can become painful. This most commonly happens to the facet joints in the lower back and neck. Ironically, such pain often is brought on by a night’s sleep. Heavy exercise, driving a car, or sitting still for long periods also can cause facet dysfunction and pain.

Treatments We Provide

Treatment for facet dysfunction and pain includes heat therapy, low-impact exercising, lumbar support, a cold pack, and a supportive brace. Posture correction and maintenance may also help. Physical therapy can help with direction in proper lifting and walking and exercises designed to strengthen your lower back, leg, and stomach muscles.
