Many children learning to walk progress through a stage of toe-walking. Over time, most kids outgrow this phase, but in some cases toe-walking lingers because it is caused by a chronic condition, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or autism-spectrum disorder. If this is the case, your doctor may prescribe physical therapy to help treat toe-walking.
