Morton’s neuroma is a condition named after Thomas George Morton, the doctor who first described it. The condition, which often affects the area between the third and fourth toes, is caused by thickened tissue around a nerve, which can make you feel like you’re standing on a rock in your shoe. You may feel stinging, burning, or numbness in some toes.
