The carpal tunnel is a narrow space through the bones and ligaments of the wrist that serves as a passageway for the median nerve as it runs between the arm and palm. Any disease or injury that damages the median nerve or that squeezes it by inflaming and narrowing the carpal tunnel can cause this condition, as can simply having a small wrist. Symptoms include numbness and tingling.
